National Spotlight: Dakota Access Pipeline Trial

Greenpeace USA and a number of other environmental activist groups will be in the national spotlight next month for their alleged roles as primary financiers of the 2016-2017 Dakota Access Pipeline protests. In what former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum called, “a disaster” for the state, the protests led to over $7.5 billion in economic losses and threatened the lives of numerous first responders and Dakota Access Pipeline construction site workers.

The Plaintiff and owner of the Dakota Access Pipeline, Energy Transfer, has also argued these groups spread misinformation about the pipeline and enabled activists who illegally trespassed and destroyed public and private property during the protests.

The lawsuit stands as an example that vandalism and destruction should not be tolerated and that groups who have allegedly funded these actions should be scrutinized in the court of law.

The case is slated to be heard in February in North Dakota. Link to the complaint can be found here.
